3,900 total Invitations To Apply (ITAs) are issued by CIC in largest Express Entry draw of 2018

On 5th of September, the government authorities of Canada conducted its largest federal draw of the year 2018 issuing total of 3,900 invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canada Permanent Resident Visa.

The minimum cut-off was 440 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This is the lowest cut-off score of 2018 till date. The cut-off score signifies that all those candidates who are having a point score of 440 and above are now eligible to apply for Canada Permanent Residency. The tie-break date and time used in this draw was April 29, 2018, at 14:28:34 UTC. This tie-break date means that this draw is applicable to candidates who have submitted their Express Entry Profile before the mentioned date and time.

This Express Entry draw broke the trend of issuing 3,750 ITAs that was first established by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on June 13th and followed by the next six draws held since then. The very first draw of this year began at 2,750 and has increased incrementally to the current size of 3,900 ITAs. Even an ITA increment from 250 to 500 can be seen throughout 2018 draws.

This lower CRS cut-off has a resultant more number of ITAs issued. Larger draw sizes, and more regular draws, can also have the effect of lowering CRS scores. In this year till now, IRCC has issued a total of 58,600 ITAs over 18 draws. If you compare this figure with the year 2017, total of 57,751 ITAs were issued over the first 18 draws of 2017. However, IRCC had issued 63,777 ITAs in 2017 by this same point in September. This leaves IRCC 5,177 ITAs behind last year’s pace.

An increasing number of ITAs are being issued by the Canadian authorities. This is to keep up the admission targets of immigration for 2018, under Canada’s multi-year immigration plans of welcoming 1 million skilled immigrants in the country by the year 2020.

Express Entry invites skilled individuals through its three main federal economic immigration categories called- a) The Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWP), The Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTP) and The Canadian Experience Class (CEC). Then there comes Provincial Nomination Programs (PNPs) that have various streams aligned with Express Entry Program. Such PNP applicants, after getting nomination from any province can claim additional points of 600 CRS. This addition of points ultimately boosts the applicant’s chances of selection in the subsequent Express Entry Draw.
