The province of Alberta has a systematic selection process for skilled immigrants. This system is quite similar to the Federal System of selection. The point based system shortlists candidates with at least 67 points out of 100 based on personal credentials of an individual. These Credentials are Age, Educational Qualification, Work experience and English language ability. It also considers other factors such as arrange employment in the province (Job offer from employer operating inside Alberta) as well as Adaptability factors (Previous work/study in Canada).

Language Skills: Maximum 28 points

Canada is a bi-lingual country with both English & French as its official languages. Therefore, English language is an essential language that you have to master in. Proficiency in both English (being the first official language) and French (being the second official language) give you points. Below table will give you points you will get to earn on English proficiency (mandatory). You can gain extra points on learning French language (not mandatory).

Work Experience: Maximum 15 points

Your work experience speaks of your skills & expertise. A decent amount of work experience means an individual is among highly trained personnel and is ready to face work challenges and practical business hurdles. This factor is vital because with a good quality of work experience you may bag a Job offer in Alberta pretty soon and comply with the mandatory requirement of having LMIA approved Job offer in hand.

An approved Job offer from Alberta is mandatory to be eligible to apply for Alberta Provincial Nomination. This employment also has to be:

  • LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) approved Job offer
  • Permanent work opportunity
  • Full-time Job with an employer working inside territories of Alberta

Adaptability factor allots points on factors such as previous study or work in Canada, Relative friends living in Canada. Etc. In nutshell, all those factors that can make you more adaptable living in Canada give you adaptability points.
