What is a Singapore Work Visa?

A Singapore work visa is officially called a work pass. It allows foreign nationals to live and work legally in Singapore. Issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), it is mandatory before starting any job in the country. The most common types of Singapore work visa or work pass are the Employment Pass (EP) and the S Pass for mid-skilled workers. The Employment Pass (EP) is for professionals with higher qualifications and work experience, such as managers, engineers, software developers, and researchers. The S Pass is for mid-level skilled workers, such as technicians, supervisors, or chefs. A Singapore work visa is valid for 1-2 years and can be renewed.

How to get a Work Visa in Singapore?

Getting a job and being eligble for a work pass

After you get a job in Singapore, your employer will decide the work pass you are eligible for — Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, or work permit.

Get an In-Principle Approval or IPA

If Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower approves your work pass application submitted by the employer, they will issue you an In-Principle Approval or IPA letter. This will act as a pre-visa travel document and is valid for 6 months.

Arrive in Singapore with an IPA

Fill the SG Arrival card online three days before arriving in Singapore. Arrive in the country and get your temporary entry stamp or digital entry notice.

Register Biometrics & Collect Your Work Pass

Visit the MOM Services Centre or the location specified in your IPA letter to complete your biometric registration by submitting fingerprints and a photo. Present your original documents, such as a passport and educational certificates. After this, you’ll receive your Employment Pass (EP) or S Pass card. This is the Singapore work visa, which legally allows you to work, open a bank account, rent housing, and access public healthcare services in Singapore.
