What is a Schengen visa?

A Schengen visa (Type C) is a short-stay permit that allows non-EU nationals to travel to up to 29 countries in the Schengen Area for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period.

​You will need to apply to the embassy of the country you plan to visit the most, or the one you enter first if stays are equal, via its visa or VFS portal. The visa’s sticker shows both its overall validity window and the number of days you are allowed to stay.

Documents for a Schengen visa

  • A cover letter explaining your travel purpose and itinerary

How to get a Schengen visa?

  • Select your destination and check which embassy to apply to.

  • Book an appointment via VFS or your embassy’s portal at least 2–3 months before travel.

  • Collect all documents like forms, photos, passport, insurance, bookings, funds, cover letter, etc.

  • Attend the appointment: submit documents, pay government service fees, and give fingerprints.

  • Track your application through the online system or service provider.

  • Receive a visa sticker. Check entries, dates, and duration at the border. Always follow the 90/180-day rule.
