The current Canada minimum wage is $17 according to the federal government, effective since 1st April, 2024. The federal minimum wage is the least amount paid to the employee for their work in Canada. The employers in Canada have to pay them the amount set by the federal government. But, in case the minimum wage set by the provincial government is higher than that of the federal government, the employer shall pay the wage as set by the provincial government. 

Canada Minimum Wage 2024

The Canada minimum wage 2024 is $17 and employers in the country are required to pay at least this amount to their employees. The federal minimum wage became effective on 1st April, 2024. The government of Canada has set an amount of minimum hourly wage that all employees should be paid.

Previously the least amount of wage to be paid on an hourly basis was $16.75. However, seeing the effects of inflation on the people of Canada, the federal government raised the minimum amount to be paid to workers in Canada.

Apart from the federal government fixing the minimum hourly wage bar, the provincial and territorial governments also have their minimum wages set. However, one thing to note is that if the provincial or the territorial government’s minimum wage is greater than the federal minimum wage, then the higher wage will be paid.

Who receives Federal Minimum Wage?

By federally regulated sector we mean those working or doing internships in banks, courier and postal services, and those in the interprovincial rail, road, air, and marine transportation.
