An individual can login to their Canada PR account through the Canada Permanent Residence Portal. This account is created by IRCC. After creating an account, IRCC will send the temporary details to login to one’s PR portal. An individual should not create the account by themselves, since it only delays the process.

What is Permanent Residence Portal?
The use of Permanent Residence portal includes:
- Applying for permanent residence
- Applying for Canada PR card or permanent residence travel document (PRTD)
- Confirming permanent residence status of a person
- IRCC will invite you to send a photo for PR card
One important thing to note is that an individual does not create the PR account, instead, IRCC creates it. After that, the individual can login to their Canada PR account.
At the time of confirming one’s PR status, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will create the account for them. Once an account is created, IRCC will send the username and temporary password to the individual.
How does Permanent Residence Portal work?
Once IRCC approves your Canada permanent residence application, they will:
- Send an invitation to confirm- your presence in Canada; your email address; all email addresses of people on your application
- Create the account for you
- Send an email with temporary details so you can sign in to your account

How to reset the password?
If you are already logged in, you can reset your password with the link in your portal.
At the time when IRCC creates the PR account for you, they send you an email with a temporary password to login to your Canada PR account. Since it is a temporary password, it is only valid for 30 days.
In case the password is somehow lost or expires, IRCC will send you a new one. In case the temporary password is not working, contact IRCC.
