The new Canada Grocery Rebate, started on 5 July, has tried to relieve Canadians of some impacts of inflation. Grocery Rebate part of the Budget of Canada as the country tried to make things affordable for people of Canada. The inflation in Canada is just rising up and many Canadians are in need of some relief. Even if this Rebate won’t completely eradicate effects of inflation for Canadians, it will still provide them some financial support. 

Even if inflation is rising, the government of Canada is making sure that the people are not suffering too much because of it. Take Grocery Rebate for example, it is set to provide financial relief to eligible Canadians by giving some amount of money to spend on groceries. What is the Canada Grocery Rebate? 

The Canadian Government launched the Budget 2023 for the fiscal year 2023-2024 on 28th May, 2023. The budget made it clear that the government thinks deeply for its people as it mainly focused on making services across Canada affordable and accessible. Along with making the middle class of Canada stronger, it also focused on creating jobs in the environmental sector and aiming to make the economy much greener. The Grocery Rebate, launched on 5 July, Wednesday, was a one-time payment to help with the rising rates of inflation. As the food prices are increasing throughout Canada, it is obvious that the most vulnerable classes of people cannot meet up with them. Hence, the Grocery Rebate could be really useful for them. 

The Grocery Rebate payments were set to come by cheque or directly in the bank accounts through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). As mentioned before, this rebate is basically to help with the rising grocery prices, but a person is not obliged to only spend it on groceries. They can spend it as they see fit. 

Let’s take a look at the eligibility criteria below. 

Who’s Eligible for the Grocery Rebate?

The Grocery Rebate was basically for the low as well as middle class of Canada. Which means those who belonged to the low income families and modest income families were provided some help to bear the impacts of high inflation. In other words, Canadian families with income of less than $38,000 or less, and individuals with income of $32,000 or below will be eligible for it automatically. 

Below are the amount of payment made for different types of households in Canada:-

In case a person is married or is with a common-law partner:

  • No children- $306
  • One child- $387
  • Two children- $467
  • 3 children- $548
  • 4 children- $628

In case of individuals who are single

  • No children- $234
  • One child- $387
  • Two children- $467
  • 3 children- $548
  • 4 children- $628

Were you eligible for the Grocery Rebate? Did you receive the payment?
