You will need to get a Russian student visa if you want to study in the country. The complete process involves 6 major steps

Step 1: Choose Your University & Course

Step 2: Apply & Secure Official Invitation

Submit your academic transcripts and completed application. Upon acceptance, the university will issue an invitation via the Ministry of Internal Affairs or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, needed to begin your visa application .

Step 3: Complete the Online Visa Application

Go to the official Russian visa portal and fill out the study visa application form, selecting “Study” and “Common Educational.” Print, sign it, and save your Application ID and password for future tracking

Step 4: Gather & Submit Required Documents

The next step is to gather all required documents and submit them to your nearest Russian consulate or VFS Global center. ​Once everything is complete, submit your application to VFS or the consulate to begin the visa processing.

Step 5: Visa Processing & Fee Payment

Pay the visa fee and service charges at VFS or consulate. Processing typically takes 7–20 days. You may be called for an interview or asked for additional documents

Step 6: Travel to Russia & Complete Registration

Once your visa is issued, travel to Russia. At the border, obtain an immigration card and upon arrival, complete visa registration at your dorm or local migration office for long-term stay
