What is a Finland Study Visa?
International students planning to study in Finland for longer than 90 days must apply for a residence permit for studies or a student visa. It is issued by the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri). How to get a Finland study visa?

Step 1: Get Admitted to a Finnish Institution
Obtain an admission letter from an accredited university, university of applied sciences, or vocational school—required to initiate your residence permit application

Step 2: Submit Your Residence Permit Application
Apply online via Enter Finland (or paper) and pay the fee. Use VFS Global or embassy as instructed

Step 3: Visit Embassy for Biometrics & Identity
Attend your appointment abroad to submit fingerprints, show originals, and pay the processing fee .

Step 4: Wait for Decision
Permit decisions typically take several weeks. You may be contacted for additional information during this time.

Step 5: Receive D Visa
Once approved, you may get a D visa sticker, valid for 100 days, allowing you to enter Finland before your permit card is ready

Step 6: Move to Finland & Register
Arrive in Finland, collect your residence permit card, and register your address at the local Digital and Population Services Agency (DVV) or police within 14 days.
