CANADA WELCOMES 4,147 EXPRESS ENTRY APPLICANTS TO REGISTER FOR CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCY. ON MAY 13, CANADA ORGANIZED ANOTHER EXPRESS ENTRY ROUND OF INVITATIONS WITH A LOW SCORE REQUIREMENT.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) welcomed applicants with at least 401 points, which was one point more than the previous comparable draw. Applicants must also be registered for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), which requires at least one year of professional work experience in Canada as well as advanced language proficiency in English or French.
Express Entry in 2021
So far in 2021, 66,475 candidates have been invited. This year’s rate of invites released significantly outperforms that of last year. This may be because IRCC is hosting larger draws, such as the one on February 13 in which every CEC candidate was invited to apply.
IRCC has regularly organized draws that target applicants that are likely already in Canada as part of an attempt to admit 401,000 new permanent residents this year despite travel restrictions. Candidates for both the CEC and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are in high demand in Canada.
The score conditions for CEC and PNP draws are vastly different. CEC draws usually demand lower scores since these candidates are not vying for invites with other candidates. As a function of the greater draw sizes, applicants with lower scores are able to be invited. Candidates in the previous CEC-only draw only needed to have a score of 400.
PNP applicants are automatically awarded 600 points, indicating that their score thresholds are considerably higher.
