What is an Irish Tourist visa?

If you want to visit Ireland for less than 90 days, you must apply for a Short-Stay ‘C’ or Ireland Tourist Visa. One needs to fill out the online form, pay the fee, and then lodge your passport and papers through VFS or an Irish Embassy. The visa is decided by the Irish Immigration Service (ISD) and is single-entry by default, though you can request multi-entry for repeat trips.

The British-Irish Visa Scheme (BIVS)

Indian and Chinese nationals can take advantage of the British-Irish Visa Scheme. If your Irish or UK short-stay visa is stamped “BIVS”, you may move freely between the Republic of Ireland and the UK (including Northern Ireland) during the same trip—no second visa needed. This is granted at the discretion of the visa officer and cannot be appealed if omitted.

Documents required for an Ireland tourist visa.

  • Online visa application summary and signed declaration
  • A passport valid for at least six months after your trip, along with copies of all visas and entry stamps.
  • Two recent passport photos
  • Proof of travel, such as a round-trip flight booking or ferry ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for every night. This includes hotel bookings or an invitation letter
  • Bank statements for the last three months showing enough money to cover your stay
  • Employment or study letter confirming leave and your return date.
  • Documents to prove strong ties with your home country. This can include documents related to employment, education, or financial statements.
  • Travel insurance covering medical costs during your stay
  • Detailed day-by-day itinerary
  • Signed consent & birth certificate for any minor children travelling
  • Biometrics appointment receipt

Processing time

The decision for an Irish tourist visa normally takes about eight weeks from the day your application reaches the visa office. Times can be longer at peak holiday periods or if extra checks are needed. You may apply up to three months before your trip, so applying early is wise.

Common reasons for visa rejections

1. Money that doesn’t add up

Visa officers look for steady income and enough cash for your whole stay. Sudden large deposits or low balances signal risk. We arrange clear, well-explained bank statements and, when needed, strong sponsor evidence.

2. Vague travel plans

“Just visiting” is not enough. If hotels, flights and daily plans don’t match, the application can be turned down under Code 2 (“purpose not credible”) We build a detailed, realistic itinerary that ties every booking to specific dates.

3. Weak reason to return home

Lack of a stable job, property, or family ties makes officers worry you won’t leave after 90 days. We pack your file with employment letters, title deeds, family certificates and other proof that your life is rooted at home.

4. Missing originals or poor copies

Ireland insists on original bank statements, signed employer letters, and high-quality document scans. We pre-check every page, certify translations, and flag anything that needs re-printing before you submit.

5. Wrong visa for the Common Travel Area

Applying for a standard Irish visa when a BIVS endorsement would suit your plan may lead to refusal or extra delays. We advise the best route, an Irish ‘C’, UK visa with BIVS, or the separate Visa Waiver Programme, so you meet the right rules from the start. If you are refused, you have two months to appeal, free of charge. We draft a focused appeal letter that addresses each refusal point with fresh evidence.
