The Northwest Territories also known as the Northwest Territory or NT are federal territories of Canada and the most populated of the three territories is Northern Canada. The Northwest Territories is a vast Canadian Territory with a 2016 census population of 41,790. Foreign people who want to live in this wide area can apply for Canada PR through the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP). Canada consists of 10 provinces and three territories. Each province has its own set of eligibility rules and criteria to welcome qualified individuals and satisfy the labor requirements. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is the regulatory body for these nominee programs. Below is the list of nominee programs you can use to immigrate to a particular province or territory:

NOTE: Quebec is not included in the Provincial Nominee Program. So, if you are aiming to immigrate to Quebec you have to apply under Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

What is the Nominee Program for the Northwest Territories Canada?

The Northwest Territories Nominee Program is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) run by the Northwest Territories Canada to invite more immigrants and increase Canadian immigration in the Northwest territories. You can make a request directly to the federal government, which then recommends eligible candidates for immigration to Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

To be eligible for any Provincial Nominee Program, you must have the knowledge, training, experience, and resources required to live comfortably in the province or territory where your application is being submitted. We can provide you with the required knowledge as we are CICC Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC).

If you are a foreign national with certain qualifications and experience and want to immigrate to Northwest Territories Canada, then you can consider the main three immigration streams which are currently available:

Employer-driven Streams

Canadian employers or companies can use the Employer-Driven Stream to hire and nominate foreign nationals when no Canadian or Canada PR holders are available for employment. This stream assists firms in hiring qualified individuals while also assisting them in obtaining Canada PR holders through three program types:

  • Skilled worker stream
  • Entry-level/semi-skilled worker occupations
  • Northwest Territories Express Entry

To be eligible for this stream, you must first have a job offer from Northwest Territories company. Both the foreign national and their potential employer must fulfill specific eligibility conditions and apply.

Skilled Worker Stream
Federal Skilled Trades Program and Federal Skilled Workers Program

The Skilled Worker category assists firms in attracting suitable persons when there is a labor shortage in the Northwest Territories Canada for positions that require formal education and specialized training. In order to apply for this stream, you must demonstrate that you have the necessary training, experience, and education to satisfy the requirements of the job description. If you are residing overseas or in Canada without a valid work visa then you will be not eligible for the nomination under this stream.

Eligibility requirements for the Northwest Territories Skilled Worker Stream

In order to be eligible for the Northwest Territories Skilled Worker stream you meet the following criteria:

  1. You must have at least one year of full-time experience in the appropriate occupation and a minimal linguistic requirement to guarantee that you are proficient in English or French.
  2. Submit all needed papers, including a valid work permit, Educational Credential Evaluation (ECA), passport, birth certificate, legitimate language test, marriage certificate, and passports of dependents (if applicable).
  3. The applicant must have the necessary education, work experience, and certificate/accreditation to execute the job connected to the application.
Entry-level/Semi-Skilled Worker occupations

When companies are unable to locate a qualified Canadian citizen or Canada PR holder locally or nationally, the Northwest Territories Entry Level/Semi-Skilled Occupations stream assists them in filling labor shortages. The stream is designed primarily for individuals in entry-level and semi-skilled industries that require little or no training. To be eligible, nominated foreign nationals must be employed in a position classified at National Occupational Classification (NOC) level C or D.

(NOTE: From 16 November 2022 NOC 2016 version 1.3 will not be effective. Skill Level will be converted to the training, education, experience, and responsibilities (TEER) code according to NOC 2021 version 1.0. So, NOC skill levels C and D will become TEER 4 and 5)

This program stream adds competent multilingual employees to the workforce in the NWT, diversifying it and addressing the region’s labor shortages.

The Canadian government has been pushing up its attempts to draw immigrants of the francophone culture to Canada. These initiatives are motivated by the need to protect and reverse a trend that is endangering the basic foundation of Canada’s linguistic duality consisting of both English and French speakers—as well as the decrease in francophone populations across the nation.

Francophone Stream aims to expand the number of multilingual professionals available to hire at all levels of the National Occupational Classification. There are minimal language requirements for the Francophone Stream; these requirements must be satisfied at the time of application, and language test documentation is required.
