Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada have waved the green flag for PTE to be accepted for Canadian immigration programs. To say in simple terms, PTE is accepted for Canada PR applications now. However, your old PTE test scores won’t matter as Pearson has launched a new test format, PTE Core. IRCC will only be accepting PTE Core test results for Canada PR.
PTE Core receives approval for Canada PR
IRCC has started accepting PTE test results for Canadian permanent residency applications. The candidates must take the PTE Core test to be eligible. Pearson will start letting candidates take the newest test format PTE Core starting 12 February 2024.

This is a big announcement for people waiting for PTE to be listed as an approved language test among others.
Since this test is now approved for Express Entry, you may take the test for the following programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Canadian Experience Class
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
Minimum PTE Score Required for Canada PR
You must score a minimum of CLB 4 in your PTE Core test to be eligible for Canada PR through Express Entry.

About PTE Core
PTE Core is a newly launched English proficiency test format by the Pearson Test of English. It mirrors the PTE Academic test format in various ways. For starters, it’s also a two-hour, computer-based test that assesses the test taker’s skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening to the English language.
The aim of creating this test is to meet Canada’s particular immigration needs and language expectations. Moreover, candidates from other countries can also take this test to see how well they converse in English.
