About NOC list of Canada

This is a database that is developed by the government of Canada called the National Occupational Classification list. It categorizes all occupations in the country present in the Canadian labour market. As part of the Canadian labour market, the NOC assigns each occupation a code, referred to as a NOC code. To evaluate the work experience of immigration applicants, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses NOC codes. It is mandatory for immigration applicants to indicate the NOC code that best describes their work experience when asked to identify work experience. NOC codes are therefore extremely important for applicants to understand. Now this NOC system has changed to the TEER category system. The Canadian government changed the previous NOC 2016 version 1. to NOC 2021 1.0.

What is the TEER Category system?

To determine a candidate’s eligibility for work experience, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will use the new Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) system. The Canadian government has planned to change the new version of NOC 2021 by November 16, 2022. There will be a six-category system replacing the present NOC 2016 skill type and skill level structure (NOC 0, A, B, C, and D). The NOC occupation codes which used to be of 4 digits will be changed to 5 digits. All the programs which use the NOC codes will update the new rules for eligibility criteria. Following table will show how skills types changed to TEER category:
