BC PNP IPG: An Overview

The BC PNP International Post-Graduate is a sub-category under the BC PNP Skills Immigration stream. It is the only category under the entire BC PNP program that:

  • Does not require registration in the SIRS (Skills Immigration Registration System)
  • Does not require a prior employment offer.

To qualify under this category, the applicants must have completed their post-graduation from a valid academic institute in British Columbia. The BC PNP International post-graduate category is applicable only to the fields of natural science, applied science and health science. The list of eligible academic programs along with their institutes is given in section 5.

Similar to the international graduation category, the applicant must apply within three years from the official date of graduation. Moreover, a distance learning program where more than 50% of the coursework is online is not eligible under the BC PNP International Post-Graduate Category.

Policy changes due to Pandemic.
Understanding the debilitating impact of the pandemic, British Columbia has made certain policy changes to accommodate international post-graduate students. In the past, online course were not acceptable under the BC PNP International Post-Graduate (BC PNP IPG) category. It was compulsory for the students to cover their coursework in classes. However, this clause has been temporarily altered.

If you have graduated on or after March 2020,

  • You must have finished at least 50% of your course by staying in Canada.
  • You must qualify for all the compulsory requirements for the BC PNP International Post-Graduate category.

The applicant will have to provide a proof of your presence in Canada while pursuing the post-graduate course. Presence in Canada might be proven with documents such as rent agreements, water bills, electricity bills, bank statements, passports, etc.

If you have graduated before March 2020,

  • You are required to complete more than 50% of your coursework in classes.

BC PNP Requirements For International Students

The mandatory BC PNP requirements for international students who have Masters or Doctorate degree are discussed under this section.

Graduate from British Columbia. You must have graduated in your Master’s or Doctorate from an institution in British Columbia.

Prove you are here for the long haul. To be eligible under the BC PNP International Post-Graduate category you must successfully express your intention to settle and financially contribute to British Columbia. Your intent can be proven through:

  • Tangible history of residence in British Columbia.
  • Social connections in British Columbia acquired through work and study, or family.
  • Proof of a stable job and accommodation.
  • Involvement in community
  • Financially independent, etc.

BC PNP International Graduate (BC PNP IG): An Overview

This BC PNP International Graduate category is for global students who have graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution. It is the category from which the PNP Tech draw issues the most ITAs. To qualify under this category, the applicant must apply within three years from graduating. This is similar to the BC PNP International Post-Graduation category. The applicants are also required to meet some additional mandatory requirements discussed in the next section.

BC PNP International Graduate Requirements

The applicant must fulfil the common mandatory conditions of the BC PNP. Additionally, they are mandated to meet the following BC PNP international graduate category requirements.

Graduate With A Diploma, Degree, Or Certificate From An Accredited Canadian Tertiary Institution- College Or University

The university or college from where the applicant graduates must be authorized to award degrees, certificates, and diplomas.

A Minimum 8-month Course

To qualify under this skilled immigration category, your academic program must be at least 8 months or two semesters. It must be a full-time program. These 8 months do not include the time taken by internships and co-op works.

Graduate From A Public Institution

Certificates and diplomas are valid only if they are from a public tertiary institution. Certificates and diplomas from a private Canadian institution are not acceptable under the BC PNP International Graduate category. You are ineligible if,

  • Your diploma or certificate is for language training.
  • You apply for immigration later than three years after graduation.
  • Your academic program is in distance learning mode situated in or outside Canada.
  • The degree, diploma, or certificate earned is awarded by a branch of a Canadian institution that is established outside Canada.
Receive A Job Offer With Noc Levels A And B

Unlike the BC PNP International Post-Graduate category, the International Graduate category requires a full-time employment. The employment letter must be authorized and signed and must be on the official letterhead of the employer’s company. A job offer of NOC skill level O is not applicable for graduates. Occupations under NOC level O are managerial and supervisory designations that require substantial work experience. If the applicant’s job offer includes a supervisory designation, he/she must be able to prove that they have the required exposure for the designation. Failing to prove so might lead to refusal of the application.

Your Employment Must Be Offered By A Legitimate Employer In British Columbia

A valid employer in British Columbia must be established in the province and must be financially lucrative to British Columbia. The must also be in the possession of a valid business license and other required permits.

Immigrate Through The British Columbia Express Entry (Eebc) Program

If you have a valid Express Entry profile along with a Job Seeker Validation Code, you qualify for immigration to B.C. through its Express Entry program (EEBC). The express Entry category of the BC PNP is detailed further in the article.
