Canada is a wonderful country, one that offers plentiful opportunities for growth. Every year, millions of people move to Canada in the hope of starting their lives afresh. These hopeful souls are eager to begin their journey as soon as they can, but there’s one thing that comes in their way, the time it takes to obtain Canadian PR status.

It is a time-consuming process, one that often takes months, if not years. Though there are several pathways by which you can obtain permanent residency, most of them entail waiting for about a year. We don’t want you to wait, and hence we bring you the fastest way to get PR in Canada.

Express Entry is the fastest way to get PR in Canada. If you choose Express Entry as your immigration program, you would most probably be able to get permanent residency in Canada in about 5 to 8 months only.

We’ll explore how you can get PR in Canada through Express Entry in this blog, but first, let us briefly describe Express Entry.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry was launched in 2015, and since then, the name has become quite popular among other immigrants. It is an online application system used by the government of Canada to manage immigration applications of skilled workers.

Every year, over a million skilled workers choose to immigrate via one of Express Entry’s programs. The three programs under Express Entry are:

How is Express Entry the fastest way for PR?

There’s a very clear reason why Express Entry is considered the fastest way for PR: applications are processed rapidly when applied under Express Entry.

Application processing time under each of Express Entry’s programs:

  • Canadian Experience Class – 5 Months
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program- 6 Months
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program- Information Not Available (Approx 6 Months)

The time that we have provided is Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) standard processing time. IRCC’s aim is to process about 80% of all its applications within its standard time frame.

One more thing to remember here: IRCC is only able to process these applications faster when they are submitted properly, they have all the documents attached and contain the right information.

How to Get Canada PR by Express Entry?

Follow these steps to get Canada PR via Express Entry:

Step 1: Be Eligible

First of all, you must be eligible for at least one of the Express Entry programs.

Step 2: Create an Express Entry Profile

To get permanent residency via Express Entry, you need to first create your Express Entry profile. When you create your profile, you will enter various information regarding your age, work experience, language proficiency, etc.

Step 3: Receive a CRS score

Based on the information of your profile, IRCC will use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to give you a score out of 1200 points. The higher your score, the more likely you are to immigrate faster.

Step 4: Be in the Express Entry pool

Once IRCC finds your profile eligible, it will place it in the Express Entry pool with other eligible profiles.

Step 5: Prepare Your Documents

When you are in the Express Entry pool, you have the time to prepare your documents for when you will be filing out your PR application. Some documents, such as PCC, take time to retrieve. Hence, it is advisable that you get them beforehand.

Step 6: Receive an ITA

IRCC conducts an Express Entry draw on an almost regular basis. You may expect a draw every second Wednesday or Thursday. Through these draws, eligible candidates receive Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada.

A particular number of candidates who meet the eligibility criteria of that particular round are selected from the pool in a round of draw.

Step 7: Fill out PR application

You cannot apply for Canada PR without receiving an ITA. After IRCC sends you an ITA in your profile, go ahead and start your residency application.

Step 8: Upload Documents

All the documents that you need to upload in your PR application must be either in English or French.

Step 9: Pay the required fee

Pay the application fee, right of permanent residence fee, and biometrics fee.

Step 10: Submit PR application

Do not submit your permanent residence application if you haven’t uploaded the right documents and provided the correct information. Make sure that you fulfill the requirements and have paid the required fees as well.

Step 11: Receive a PR Visa

Once IRCC approves your application, it will issue you a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and a PR visa

What to do to obtain Canada PR faster?

Use the below tricks to obtain Canada PR faster:

  • Increase your CRS score: Opt to work in Canada on a work permit or get a study permit. Those who have Canadian education or work experience, receive a higher CRS score. Receiving a higher CRS score means your chances of receiving an ITA increase.
  • Get your paperwork done beforehand: It is best that you prepare the necessary paperwork beforehand. This is because some documents like PCC, etc, take some to get ready.
  • Submit a completed PR application: If your PR application is not filled out completely, or there’s any wrong information, IRCC may refuse or reject your application. You may apply again for PR but that will take further time. Thus, it is best to submit an application which is complete.
  • Don’t hide any information: Your PR application should be truthful and you shouldn’t try to hide any information. If IRCC finds that you are hiding something, it may refuse your application.
  • Submit all documents properly and fill out all the forms properly. Applying again for PR just takes a lot of time and you wouldn’t want that when you are looking to get Canada PR faster.

How Many Candidates will Receive PR in 2024?

According to the Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, IRCC has allotted a capacity of about 110,770 immigrants who can be granted PR in 2024 via Express Entry.

As for 2025 and 2026, about 117,500 immigrants may be granted permanent residence in Canada through Express Entry.

Overall, in 2024, IRCC will probably grant residency to almost 485,000 immigrants. This target goes a bit higher for 2025 and 2026. About 500,000 immigrants may become residents of Canada.
